This hotel’s public spaces in Novi, Michigan are the leading representation of the brand’s new lifestyle directive. The newly designed public spaces takes on the feel of a modern-day lake retreat inspired by American 20th century modernism and the industrialism of Detroit.
Combining traditional warmth with contemporary design, the hearth – an exceptional 30’ high cast glass sculpture– is the focal area of the grand lobby. Stone is reinterpreted as glass, creating a cascading and reflective wall that invites contemplation and relaxation. Gathering areas radiate from the structure and create multiple spaces for small groups or individuals to work or socialize. All materials are expressed authentically, as steel, glass, and wood work together to harmoniously redefine convention with a regional take on modernism.
Windows lining either side of the lounge create openness, while a selection of work by local artists adds dynamism to the space. Importantly, the artwork represents the strong creative energy of the Detroit area and the range of artistic expression that can emerge from difficult historical periods.
Marrying chic with cozy, the design firm fashioned a space that enhances the hotel’s tradition of great hospitality and relevance to its community.
