Crystal Barn aims to create a new model for mixed-use development that blurs the boundary between commerce and culture, prioritizing public space-making with high environmental performance. Conceived as the Phase II anchor for the 81-acre Orchard Park Master Plan in Meridian, Idaho - approximately a 20-minute commute from downtown Boise; the 85,000 sq-ft building comprises two staggered 350-ft long, parallel structures inspired by Idaho’s agricultural vernacular.
Under the pitched roofs, a dynamic, multi-level interior showcases thoughtfully curated, regionally based tenants, including a wave-surfing pool, experimental gastro hall, yoga and spinning studio, gourmet market, and outdoor outfitter.
To achieve the project’s net-zero goal, EC3 and its consultant team employed hybrid mass timber (CLT) construction to reduce embodied carbon and developed naturally ventilated “mid-door” public spaces that minimize energy use while delivering thermal comfort. The synergy between activated visitor experience and high-level sustainability makes Crystal Barn a resilient, future-proof destination.
