The Attic, a nightclub and event venue located on the second floor of the River North hotspot American Junkie, is housed in an industrial-chic space that features a retractable roof and street front façade that opens onto Illinois Street. Modern details pay tribute to the epitome of the ‘American experience’ by combining rugged accents with sophisticated finishes, and culminating in a back-lit wall emblazoned with the American flag that plays the role of the nightclub’s backdrop.
As an infill project, bringing natural light into the main spaces proved our biggest challenge. To solve this issue, a retractable skylight was installed to infuse the nightclub with light and fresh air. The skylight enhances the guest experience affording breathtaking views of the Chicago skyline. Glazing on the front façade is accented by a contemporary wood frame that gives passerby a pictured view of the club’s activities.
Multiple, full-service bars define the layout; a circular bar was designed to allow for maximum elbow room during shows on the club’s raised platform stage. The 140,000 mw sound system, combined with stylish furnishings and lighting systems, evokes an energy and ambiance conducive to the entertainment goals our client desired.
