The proposed memorial will create an interactive experience which will educate and raise awareness about the Holocaust, while maintaining an enjoyable and memorable Atlantic City/Boardwalk experience. Twenty punctured Corten steel ribs that are 20’ high (reflecting a ship like structure) and 2’ O.C. along the width of the site warping horizontally around the parameter, will frame the views the ocean and boardwalk. The last six ribs overlooking the ocean signifies the six million Jews who died during the Holocaust. The concave shape sloping down from the top will create a disturbance of the view of the ocean and boardwalk in both plan and elevation. This disturbance represents the turmoil this incident created in view of the human race. The floor plane, creating a semi-circular seating area, also represents this disturbance. Motion sensors will activate a "weeping system" allowing water to drip, signifying tears, from the six ribs down onto the black Granit slab. This "weeping" represents the dark past being washed away while serving as a cooling element during the summer. Looking in from the boardwalk, the first six steel ribs curve up creating six wave like humps. These will serve as seating areas imbedded with light sensors that will activate when a person sits on it, representing the six chambers with light coming out of them. The blue transparent 4" diameter pvc pipes added as a vertical element through the steel ribs will glow with a blue light at night which will carry text about the Holocaust along water to "weeping" area.
