The Andromeda, an interior renovation by PT ARCH Studio, reimagines roof attic into a “cockpit” where every family member plays a role in a shared voyage toward a distant galaxy. The space is entirely sealed, with no direct sunlight, which required design strategies to carefully control climate, lighting, and immersive atmosphere.
The challenge of a low-sloped roof became a driver for spatial organization. The computer workstations were arranged within areas of sufficient headroom, while the lower edges near the terrarium were transformed into a “comfort zone” for reclining and immersive rest. At its core, the terrarium functions as both a landscape feature and a symbolic ecosystem, anchoring the artificial environment with a sense of life.
The polycarbonate roof performs multiple roles: as an enclosure, as acoustic absorption, and as an instrument for sound control—critical for the client’s music and gaming pursuits. Technical infrastructure forms the backbone of the project. The persistent challenge of heat, with temperatures reaching 35°C, was addressed through a chiller system that recycles rainwater from the roof and integrates it into the terrarium’s misting mechanism. This both cools the interior and enhances the ecological atmosphere. A fresh air supply and centralized air-conditioning further guarantee a stable microclimate within the sealed envelope.
Lighting was designed in three layers: RGB LEDs for atmospheric scenarios; 4000K spotlights for task focus; and the terrarium’s ambient glow to soften the environment. All layers are controlled through an integrated smart system, synchronized with a ceiling-mounted LED screen capable of simulating multiple environments to heighten user immersion.
With a palette of natural stone, stainless steel, and polycarbonate, The Andromeda exemplifies how PT ARCH Studio transforms physical constraints into opportunities, framing sealed interiors not as limitations but as laboratories where architecture, technology, and emotion converge into a holistic design experiment.
