The 9th Bi-City Biennale of Urbanism/Architecture (Shenzhen) is co-curated by Andong Lu, Zigeng Wang (PILLS cheif architect) and Aric Chen. PILLS is the business entity of the curation team. Continuing the principle of “the city is the exhibition site, the exhibition is the practice,” the primary exhibition of UABB comes to GDH City · Jinpi Fang (Kingway Brewery Industrial Heritage). The exhibition opened in December 2022, with over two hundred events to be held during the three-month exhibition period.
The theme of the Biennale is "Urban Cosmologies." The concept of "Cosmologies" encompasses both spatial symbiosis and temporal rhythms of life. It is a future-oriented view of the universe enriched with the traditional wisdom of Chinesen civilization. In 2022, the global climate crisis and the necessity of an ecological shift in the urban development model are evident to us. The systemic changes call for urban design and architecture to reclaim their significance, adopt new cognitive perspectives, generate new methods, and inspire common actions. As a leader in China's high-quality development, Shenzhen should explore the Chinese version of the answer to future urban development and conduct exemplary practices. We want Shenzhen to be a city orienting toward the idea and value of living, and this Biennale will be the most appropriate moment and place to present such a vision of the city.
