The idea of remodelling an existing hotel in the Vietnamese capital was
proposed by the Hanoi Tourist Corporation, the owner of the building, as well
as by the Spanish Embassy in Vietnam.
The building works were financed by the AECID (Spanish Agency for International
Cooperation and Development). The aims of this project are: to boost the
Spanish tourism in Hanoi,
to promote the Spanish culture in this oriental country and to foster the artistic
exchange between both nations.
To make this dream come true, some Spanish and Vietnamese artists and
designers were selected to transform the standard rooms of the hotel into special
atmospheres, capturing their creative and particular universes on them.
Specifically, el fabricante de espheras
was inspired by the native landscape, the Vietnamese jungle, as well as by a
local material, bamboo, to design his room. From these two concepts, he created
a sensorial space that makes it possible to live the experience of spending a
night in the clearing of a bamboo forest.
Besides, the promoters of the project entrusted el fabricante de espheras with redesigning the common spaces of the
hotel and directing the building works. Given the aggressive atmosphere prevailing
in the city streets and considering that the common spaces give way to
different artistic universes captured on the rooms, the studio replied to this
new request in a quiet but effective way to this new job. The proposal, austere
and neutral, only resorts to black and white colours, in occasions blended with
a golden light. The lobby is designed as a flexible space whose furniture is
able to perform several functions. The staircase is a promenade that shows the
visitor how the hotel was transformed. The corridors are conceived as ways
towards the different artistic pieces shut up in the rooms.
The office was also responsible for designing the hotel’s corporate
image, as well as the products that would be the vehicle to promote the brand.
