TH Sports Park is a proposed 3000 square meter Futsal stadium in the village of Andaket, Akkar, North Lebanon. A modern stadium with the highest standards that meets FIFA regulations, in addition to a 900 seat stadium and event venue, the multi-functional building includes a club house and gym, recreational areas and outdoor sports fields and courts. With the advancement of Andaket Athletic Club’s (AAC) futsal team in national competitions, we were approached by a philanthropist to design a community-based project on the plains of the village, a little outside the center of the community. The main aim of the project, other than the sporting facilities, is to provide a community meeting place, dedicated to the empowerment and the establishment of the village youth. In recent years, AAC has been very active in cultivating a responsible sense of community within the village. Which led us to design a community-based project that further establishes this approach.
Instead of designing the project in a cluster, the building is spread to create interaction among its users. On an L-shaped plot, the building is stretched in a Y-shape that envelopes the outdoor courts while ensuring safe and open spaces for public and communal use.
Besides the stadium, the project includes two outdoor courts, surrounded by an elevated building. This minimal elevation creates enough space for outdoor seating areas around the courts and incorporates a gym, a club house and a cafeteria all connected to each other.
By having a holistic approach that incorporates social and economic activities, ensures that sustainability being the core of the project. We aim at building a self-sustainable project with minimum long-term running costs by using smart materials, light structure, innovative solutions and natural resources.
