Torgallmenningen 10 is a transformative architectural intervention in the heart of Bergen, Norway, designed by Studio Tenev. Originally constructed as part of the city's reconstruction after the great fire of 1916, this neoclassical landmark has long been a symbol of Bergen’s rich commercial and cultural history. The renovation of its 6th and 7th floors carefully balances preservation with renewal, ensuring that the building’s original character is honored while meeting contemporary needs.
The project began with a meticulous removal of superficial additions, exposing the historically valuable structural elements. A key design approach was to enhance openness and natural light, achieved by replacing a central load-bearing wall with columns to create an unobstructed, double-height lounge. A mezzanine was introduced to foster connectivity and provide informal meeting spaces, while custom-designed furnishings and thoughtful material selections enhance the atmosphere with warmth and acoustic comfort.
Beyond an office, the project serves as a living showroom for Realforum’s vision of sustainable urban development. Custom-designed furnishings, integrated storage, and transparent partitions ensure both privacy and collaboration, reinforcing a harmonious work environment. Torgallmenningen 10 stands as a testament to the power of architectural renewal, blending past and present to create a timeless, inspiring space.
