The Teton County Library has a long history in Jackson Hole, Wyoming and has become an integral part of this small yet growing mountain community. The existing building is a low-slung, gabled form that mimics the surrounding landscape, clad in natural materials and sits tight on a natural meadow. The goal of the remodel and addition was to honor the original building yet provide an updated aesthetic, increased functionality and expanded use. Through numerous public presentations and staff charrettes, the design team formulated a scheme that addressed the rural to urban transition in response to the growth and change of the community. By providing a clear entry lobby signifier and new central gathering space, this connector joins the existing building with the new youth services wing. The overall design provides the users with an abundance of natural light and visual connection to the outdoors through window walls, bay windows, and doorways. The project achieved LEED Gold certification.
