The Tesla Service Center in Palo Alto incorporates a showroom that can display up to three vehicles. The building was previously a Volvo car dealership, and in keeping with Tesla’s philosophy of sustainability and reuse, Tesla kept the majority of the building intact to minimize the amount of necessary reconfiguration. For our team, one of the challenges was to effectively use the existing space while incorporating Tesla’s design guidelines and branding. The Service Center space itself is extensive, with 14 vehicle lifts and 34 charging stations. This was the first of thirty-two car service centers that MBH has worked on with Tesla. Our team works closely with the Tesla design team to develop a space which functions effectively for the vehicles, while maintaining the traditional Tesla colors and design. On this particular center, MBH worked to upgrade for ADA compliance and collaborated closely with the City of Palo Alto to navigate jurisdictional hurdles so as to bring this project to a smooth completion.
