The American School of Puebla approached us with two key goals: to address the extreme heat issues on their terrace and to transform it into a collaborative space. They needed a practical solution to make the terrace more comfortable, as high temperatures made it virtually unusable. Additionally, they envisioned converting this area into a shared workspace where students and teachers could gather comfortably to study and collaborate. Our challenge was to transform this heat-affected, inhospitable space into a welcoming environment that would benefit the entire school community.
The goal was to re-imagine this space and transform it into a co-working area for students and teachers. The vision was to create a space that was bright yet shaded, open to take advantage of the city and volcano views yet protected, outdoors but equipped with adequate and accessible electrical and network installations, free from water accumulation that could cause leaks yet incorporating vegetation. Balancing these contrasting requirements presented a significant challenge.
The terrace is now full of students and teachers. Everyone organizes the space as needed by moving the furniture to create different work dynamics. The temperature is now comfortable, and the space is worthy of our School. The project exceeded our initial expectations.
