Stranded in the Sub urbs of Madurai, Presenting a residence that reimagines the timeless South Indian Agraharam style for modern living. With a narrow frontage and wall-to-wall construction, this design harmoniously blends tradition and practicality.
This residential house is designed with a wall-to-wall construction approach, seamlessly integrating traditional Agraharam aesthetics on the facade while adopting modernism with passive design strategies for lighting and ventilation.
The entire ventilation system operates on the chimney effect, allowing hot air to rise and exit while drawing in cooler air, ensuring continuous airflow.Terracotta tiles, jali walls, and exposed brick surfaces are used for their thermal mass and passive cooling properties.
The design includes a temporary portion allocated for future extension, ensuring adaptability without disrupting the core structure. No walls above the lintel level help reduce material costs while enhancing interior daylight distribution. This house is a blend of tradition and innovation, achieving climate-responsive, cost-effective, and sustainable living while maintaining the visual and cultural essence of Agraharam-style architecture.
