In a suburb of Volos, in the middle of a level triangular plot without significant view, a residential complex is being created with the aim of creating new interior conditions, multi-level experiences and bold design gestures.
The basic design logic is defined by the sequence of the plot lines and the circumferential structure of the spaces around a central triangular atrium. Thus, the main building volume is a two-storey, compact volume with a characteristic triangular shape and acute angles. Such a space needs special internal management in order to be functional and to successfully metabolize any residual spaces that may arise due to its shape.
Thus, it is decided to centrally place a two-storey triangular atrium around the perimeter of which, and on each side, create the functional-programmatic zones of the residence. On the long side of the triangle, the living room, the dining room and the kitchen are placed with a double height, in a free layout, with a large opening towards the garden and the linear swimming pool. On the other side, there are two ground floor bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms, the corridor of which takes advantage of the light and access to the central atrium. On the smaller of the triangle sides, the circulation space is defined with the staircase leading to the upper floor where, in correspondence with the ground floor, along with a loft extension, three more bedrooms are placed, all leading to e linear exterior balcony.
In order to refine the scale of the composition, external pergolas of concrete beams are placed, with intermediate shading elements of willow tree wood. Concrete plays a primary role as a choice of material, as the entire building is externally covered with various techniques of cement mortar or visible concrete. Around the perimeter, the remaining free spaces become green areas or designed courtyards with gravel, low vegetation and a small pool.
In the interior, wood, cement mortar and large two-storey openings with an internal view of the atrium prevail. The latter is completely lined with firebrick, giving a completely different and special character to this small courtyard with gravel and tropical plants.
