The project has received the first prize at the invited architectural competition by the Foundation of Terakki in 2008. The project had ‘’Sign of the City Awards, The Best Educational Building/Campus’’ in 2018. In total land area of 68.166 m² has 54.379 m² open spaces (playgrounds, green spaces, etc.) and 46.000 m² closed. With two-story campus; kindergarten, primary and secondary schools, indoor sports hall and swimming pool next to the high school unit has 650 people multi-purpose cultural center.
Campus buildings are LEED-GOLD certification is in the process. Accumulating in the campus rainwater, 2.000 tons of water is stored for re-use collected in cisterns, solar panels and a significant electricity savings by providing 35% of the solar energy of the electricity needs with LED fixtures to be used in lighting can be realized. Adapting to the environment of the project, the people and the human scale of the city, next to the students and educators will adopt an educational environment that is warm can also benefit the environment through social unit is intended to be a cultural and sports center.
MAIN IDEA OF DESIGN CONCEPT;
Energy
Sustainable energy sources were used in the designed school buildings. Corridor areas where solar energy is also used for heating (Passive solar heating),
Cooling north facing classes with natural ventilation (Passive cooling)
The use of electrical energy with wind turbines has shaped the design.
Indoor air quality of the building
Fresh air circulation heating and cooling systems, humidity control and filtration. It significantly reduces the percentage of students getting sick in closed areas.
Ecologic materials
Wood and travertine covering materials are preferred, aiming at sustainability.
Relationship with nature
In mass designs, solutions with at most two floors and easily accessible to nature were used, and direct relations of students with nature were provided.
DESIGN PRINCIPLES
The designed project, in line with the given program, in terms of functional and aesthetic value, As a structure integrated with nature, it is handled differently from the city school. Considering the modern psychology rules, the buildings are arranged as various elements of a campus that establishes maximum relationship with nature.
- With a design that matches the slopes of the existing land, the program has been grouped into three main groups. These groups consist of classes facing north, corridors facing south, open spaces opening to east and south.
- Space observatory, artificial ponds, climbing walls, areas for growing garden plants and agricultural purposes have been designed for the purpose of education that will strengthen the relationship with nature.
- All spaces are linked to each other with closed or open connection roads.
- The entrance space consists of large multi-purpose spaces that give a prestige and natural image at the first perception. As a defining element of this space, a cultural arch with projection capability and framing the nature in front of it has been planned.
