A City that Dreams
The first chamber features the work of Architect Carlos Arnaiz and the art of Jefre Manuel in a cubist mix of intersecting and overlapping installations. This binary installation shall be viewed through panels that force viewers to observe and interact with them through forced perspectives. It is intended that this be the first step in dreaming, a deconstruction of reality and a forced inundation with multifaceted thoughts and relativity.
A Fantastic Landscape
The diverse and limitless variety of landscapes and environments that we can find around the world as seen through the eyes of Filipinos are contrasted with the lush tropical mountains and beaches of our home country. This chamber shall feature two pieces that reach out and connect with each other. The abstract and magical work of artist Ramon Orlina as it engages, filters, and distorts and creates a magical version of this world. Connecting with this will be the clockwork gears of Architect Emmanuel Miñana’s exhibit, a rotating marvel that presents varying principles and possibilities as they are paired and engaged with each other.
A Dazzling Utopia
As some of the happiest people in the world, as consistently cited by the Gallup Positive Experience Index, Filipinos continue to believe in happy endings. The experiences we find in the most beautiful and most successful cities around the world are sought for and expected in our own cities and Filipinos continue to be hopeful about life and dream of bright futures where utopia is always a possibility. The piece by Architect William Ti will be a collection of the varying pieces from the Idea Generator as transposed to an amalgamated blend of Manila and Venice. Two cities that have gone through very different histories yet in many ways serve as polar opposites of what cities can be. This is reflected by the work of artist Ronald Ventura, a sculptural piece that parlays the difficulties and challenges one sees in the building of utopian societies.
Atmosphere
Realizing the dearth of art and architectural discourse in the country, the Philippine Pavilion team will embark upon a series of discussions and presentations at all the major art and architecture centers in the country. This travelling exhibition is intended as a series of progressing discussions that shall seed a continuous and healthy discourse in the art and architecture community.
While in Venice, a series of performances that shall tie together and correlate the evolution of Filipino art and architecture will be held at amenable public spaces and spaced out during the entirety of the exhibition. The exhibition shall create a constant stream of social media content as we tap into the zeitgeist. This duality of feeds from the Philippines and Venice will then in turn serve as a rich exchange for ideas and possibilities across the breadth of 21st century urbanism. It shall create a vibrant atmosphere around the Pavilion and the ideas contained within.
Dreaming is the subconscious search for possibilities, the journey to the unknown that opens our minds and brings with it fresh ideas that then populate our world.
