Telavi airport project is the winning entry in a competition held for the planned expansion of a small regional airport, which was prompted by the growing influx of tourists to Kakheti - Georgia’s premier wine-producing region. As both a cultural and winemaking destination, Kakheti has become a major attraction, and this new terminal will enhance connectivity and convenience for travelers, linking the region more effectively to the capital city and, in the future, to international destinations.
The airport terminal’s layout responds to its site, surroundings, and key viewpoints. The main public spaces the entrance hall, departure lounge, and arrival lounge are arranged along the building’s perimeter, visually open to both the landscape and each other. Glass partitions separate these areas, creating a cohesive, flexible environment that can be reconfigured as needed.
Operational and enclosed service functions are consolidated within a central two-level core.
The entrance hall runs parallel to the eastern façade and main access road, with views toward the Caucasus Mountains to the north. It includes check-in counters, a small food and beverage outlet, a waiting area, and public restrooms.
To the north, the hall connects directly to the departure lounge, which extends along the northern façade and overlooks the mountains and runway. A transparent glass partition separates the two spaces. Between them are passenger processing areas, including queuing zones, security checkpoints, and passport control stations.
The departure lounge contains an additional small food outlet and restrooms. A VIP lounge is located on a mezzanine level, accessed by staircase. Overlooking both the departure lounge and runway, it includes a small balcony.
The arrival lounge extends along the southern façade and is separated from the main hall by glass. Upon entry, passengers access restrooms, passport control, and the baggage claim area. Additional restrooms and a nearby security office are also provided.
Administrative and staff offices occupy the second level of the central core, accessed via the main hall. This level includes meeting rooms, offices, locker rooms, restrooms, a break area, and technical rooms. The core is wrapped in U-glass with varying transparency semi-transparent for offices and opaque where greater privacy is required.
The structure features fair-faced pigmented reinforced concrete.
