CEI Architecture, in joint venture with ZGF Architects, is leading the design of the new Teck Acute Care Centre as part of the BC Children’s and BC Women’s Hospitals Redevelopment Project. CEI and ZGF represent the architectural component of Affinity Partnerships, the team that recently reached financial close for the project following a P3 competition.
Since opening its doors in 1982, the BC Children’s Hospital remains the only tertiary care facility dedicated to the province’s one million children. Located next door, the BC Women’s Hospital and Health Centre provides specialized health services to women, newborns and families, and is one of Canada’s largest obstetrical centres. For years, both facilities have experienced space shortages while trying to accommodate the over 200,000 visits they receive annually. The new Acute Care Centre will accommodate the growing demand for services from seriously ill or injured women and children, while incorporating 21st century healthcare practices.
The new Acute Care Centre will include an emergency department, inpatient units, paediatric intensive care, medical imaging, haematology/oncology and procedural suites. In addition, the facility will include a high-risk labour and delivery suite, and a neo-natal intensive care unit.
Construction of the new Acute Care Centre will begin winter 2014-15, with a targeted completion set for winter 2017-18.
