The TEMA Foundation decided to relocate their offices of the main headquarters in Istanbul, which over time had grown into occupying seven separate apartments scattered around in a compound of former apartment complex. Until now that was the backdrop of one of the most important civil society organizations in Turkey. For the first time, they have the opportunity to imaging a collective future work environment.
An open office layout, a quest for simplicity and spaciousness are all set as common goals. For this effect, a new stairwell is opened between the floors and the work stations are pushed to the periphery.
The building is new and relatively well constructed but was built anticipating the many layers of wall and floor coverings that would cover its frame. When you decide against the ceiling, floor and wall coverings, you are left with the unrefined aesthetics of its concrete structure. It is not necessarily beautiful. But we want to settle into its 'naturalness'. The TEMA Foundation stands behind all these design decisions.
