TB House originated from a simple aspiration shared by the homeowners: to create a new home where their parents could enjoy a peaceful retirement while preserving the close relationships between generations living under the same roof.
Rather than approaching the project as a conventional vertical arrangement of stacked functional rooms—a common typology in urban townhouses—we began with a fundamental question: how could every occupant, especially the elderly, remain constantly aware of daylight, fresh air, and the presence of other family members, regardless of where they were within the house?
This inquiry led to a spatial strategy that consolidates enclosed functions—including bedrooms, bathrooms, and storage spaces—toward the rear of the site, allowing the remaining area to become an open, interconnected living environment. The result is a generous vertical void at the heart of the house, enabling natural light to penetrate deep into the interior while visually linking everyday activities across different levels.
The staircase is conceived not merely as a circulation element but as the spatial core of the project. Split-level floor plates are organized around the central void, softening the perception of separation between floors. This configuration allows residents to see, hear, and sense the rhythms of family life through diagonal views, layered spatial relationships, and the constantly changing qualities of daylight throughout the day.
Within TB House, the central void is not simply the residual space left between enclosed rooms; it becomes the primary architectural device that shapes the quality of living. It draws natural light, ventilation, and greenery deep into the house while fostering an environment that is both open and intimate, balancing collective interaction with individual privacy.
We believe that the value of a home is no longer defined solely by the number of rooms or the amount of usable floor area, but by its capacity to cultivate the intangible connections between people.
TB House is therefore envisioned as a light, porous, and continuous spatial composition, where multiple generations can live together in close proximity while preserving the privacy and independence of each individual.
