Taylor Smyth Architects has recently moved into a new office located in a 1950’s low rise office building on Davenport Road. Designed in pursuit of LEED Commercial Interior Silver certification, the open studio environment incorporates extensive green building strategies to increase the quality and occupant comfort of the space. High efficiency lighting equipped with daylight sensors provides a softly lit and energy efficient workplace. Through the selection of low VOC products, sustainably harvested wood, Green Guard certified furniture, and material resource reuse strategies, along with the attention to detail and sensitivity to materials typical of the firm’s aesthetic, the new studio serves as a symbol of Taylor Smyth Architects’ design philosophy. The new office is a mixture of the raw and the refined – exposed structural steel I-beam columns, open web steel roof joists and tinted concrete floors are juxtaposed with a screen of staggered walnut slats interspersed with strips of clear acrylic. A custom designed boardroom table of solid bamboo sits on a blackened steel base.
