Taxi House is the culmination of a collaboration between Frost, GSS Works Ltd and the London Taxi Drivers Association to create the new HQ of the LTDA.
The existing building on the popular Great Suffolk Street has been given a dramatic facelift. The black painted brick combined with corten window surrounds create an outstanding visual landmark. In addition to the renovation of the building façade, the existing mansard roof was removed and replaced with two new floors of contemporary office space. The first of the new floors features a dramatic ribbon window with wide chamfered corten reveals stretching the length of the front facade. On top, a glass box enhances the external appearance of the building, while providing 360° views across the vertically dynamic area of Southwark and beyond.
Internally, the building was given a full refurbishment. Frost worked closely with the LTDA to create a bespoke fit out specifically tailored to suit their departmental requirements. An eye-catching entrance, with steps framed in corten walls and soffit leads to a modern reception, creating the arrival experience. Ply clad walls combined with bold colours enhance the visual palette. Each department operates on its own floor with bespoke desk and furniture arrangements, as well as break-out spaces.
In addition to the building works, Taxi House was designed to include parking at the rear with electric charging points for the latest taxi model, the TX5, which is zero emissions capable.
