Mater Plan developed considering Six Engineering Blocks, 12 General services, Customer Care Center, Signature Tower, Auditorium & Training block, Library building, Services Block, Club house with circulation roads, orchards, Amphitheatre, water features etc to present an interesting and self contained campus. This space accommodating nearly 25000 seats spread over the various buildings & facilities in three phases.
Based on the climatic parameters and also the geometry of the site, the Master Planning was along an axis running from north-east of the site to south-west of the site. The three dimensional geometry of the site was determined such that as one approaches the site from Chennai, the campus would gradually open up visually and volumetrically. The prevailing geometric alignment of approach roads dictated that the entrance be located to coincide with the design axis and this was at the north east corner of the plot.
While locating the important facilities, the six major buildings namely the Engineering blocks occupy the central core area which also was the widest space available in the plot. The buildings are oriented primarily on a North-South exposure so as to limit the effect of solar heat gains. The buildings however have an accented angular offset so as to simultaneously acknowledge the main transportation arteries on the east.
