This project is located in South Tangerang, Indonesia with a land area of 259 sqm and built area of 225 sqm. The initial concept for designing this house was to create two building blocks that have different orientations because the land is on a street corner, which means this building will have two directions on the façade. The main side faces west and the side faces north. At the front of the house, there is a non-residential area that is only used as a green area, this is an advantage for the architect to plan spaces that can see the view of the trees dan make these visuals part of the planning of this house.
The building style used in this house is Tropical Japandi with a planning model that has a simple geometric shape with a gable roof that has two orientations and different elevation level so that it forms a visual like terraces between the two roofs, and also it is designed in response to the climate in Indonesia, namely using a gable roof with a slope of between 25-35 degrees.
The zoning division in the space program places the living room as the main area in this house with two sides designed using glass areas and has a position in the middle of the garden in the house, so that the living room feels like it is integrated with the gardens. Residential rooms are on the second floor, except for guest rooms. The building façade uses brick wall material with exposed cement finishing combined with wood material, thus strengthening the natural impression of the building.
The circulation system in this house is very good because almost every side of the building has openings for air to flow around the house. Likewise with the natural lighting system which has openings with large dimensions plus several skylights. The front courtyard is used as a green area for planting vegetation to increase the reduction of western sunlight, increase the vista from inside the house, and circulate cool air with a gentle breeze. The side and rear courtyards function as cross ventilation and additional vista that in the open plan area there will be 2 side gardens.
This house building is designed with three color tones in the outside area, namely light gray obtained from the color of the concrete, brown obtained from the wall cladding, and black obtained from the fence and roof, then decorated with green from the trees. Meanwhile, in the interior, the colors used are dominated by white and also the brown color of the wood material. The interior was also designed in a Japanese interior style which has simple shapes and clear functions and is also compact, such as in the living room, where the architect made a TV table that is integrated with one of the stairs to be efficient in interior work without having to add a TV cabinet.
In conclusion, this house is how we design an ideal house in a tropical climate, especially Indonesia, namely a house that is simple, responds to the climate, responds to the location of the site and its surroundings, responds to environmental problems and has good spatial function in terms of circulation and spatial relationships.
