This renovation project transforms an underutilized underground storage space into a vibrant cooperative hub for IT and AI research. Connected to an existing office level by a simple stairway, the space was reimagined as a flexible environment that supports both individual focus and collaborative exchange.
One key intervention was the conversion of the original exhaust system grating into a generous skylight. This new opening introduces daylight deep into the underground level and defines a dining area directly beneath it, creating a social heart for the space.
To accommodate different working styles, a custom modular table system was developed. Each module can be used individually for personal work or structurally joined with others to create larger surfaces for group projects. The connection system ensures stability while allowing quick reconfiguration, maximizing adaptability within a compact footprint.
The upper office level underwent a refined renovation, improving finishes, ergonomics, and its relationship to the renewed workspace below. Together, these two levels create a cohesive, future-ready environment—demonstrating how thoughtful adaptive reuse can unlock the hidden potential of existing structures.
