The Tanden luxury clothing showroom occupies a former office in a brutalist 1970s building in a financial district of São Paulo. The initial purpose of the project was to consolidate customer service, design, administration, and production in a single space. Previously, the brand had each of these functions at different addresses in the city, making their production line more difficult. The consolidation also brought some challenges because the commercial building did not match the brand's vibe, and both employees and customers would have to share the same entryway.
In response to these challenges, we created an irregular path from the entrance of the space to erase the customer's perception of the outdated commercial building. The ceiling design and a step up direct attention away from the service access and toward the path to the showroom. The irregular walls and ceiling add complexity to the space, and due to the visual difficulty in measuring distances and relationships between different planes, they give the impression of a larger environment than it actually is.
Tanden is known for its minimalist yet sinuous lines and subtly complex shapes in its clothing pieces. We took inspiration from the brand's dress lines, especially the fabric patterns with their complex shapes combining curves and straight lines. We also developed a series of furniture pieces exclusively for Tanden's showroom: clothing racks, hangers, mirrors, and an measuring platform. The result is a unique and highly personalized space, just like the clothes produced by the brand.
