Tamal Vista provides the City of Corte Madera with much needed density and housing. The mixed-use project provides market-rate and affordable housing in a challenging, context-sensitive site. Street edges were met appropriately by:
• Decreasing density and height
• Incorporating pedestrian and retail activity
• Backing a parking structure to buffer a soon-to-be widened freeway access road
For acoustics and air quality, townhomes on the parking structure are focused away from the highway and accent the residential open space. Architectural interior detailing materials and colors complement the town of Corte Madera’s existing vernacular. Highly coordinated site planning and landscaping facilitate natural storm water purification and contribute towards the projected LEED Silver Sustainability program.
Project Highlights:
• Developing four low-rise residential buildings in Marin County (eight miles north of the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco) on a site that served as a Styrofoam-cup manufacturing plant until early 2011.
• Location offers quick access to Marin’s primary commute corridor (U.S. Highway 101) and is close to both commuter bus and ferry services.
• Residents will live within walking distance of shops, restaurants and a movie theater in or near two regional shopping centers: Town Center Corte Madera and The Village at Corte Madera.
• Eighteen apartments (10% of the total to be built) will be designated as affordable housing for low- and moderate-income residents.
