The
tall emblem structure in Dubai, Za‘abel Park
Since
the nineties Dubai has penetrated into architectural and building sphere with
its influential and innovative buildings and today the best architectural
structures and constructions are found in Dubai.
Every
year some competitions and tenders are organized as the result of the flight of
architectural ideas some buildings are planned and built that later on become
masterpieces and that become the reason of surprise and admiration.
A
new symbol for Dubai – this idea is to be in the center of the attention for
all the peoples and will become a subject of complimenting for all of them.
Taking into account the requirements of the competition, the laws, the rules,
the natural and climate related conditions of Dubai City we considered the
following concept that this city has a dual nature – it has both land and water
(ocean). It has originated from the land but it is growing and developing into
the ocean.
Taking
into account the historical reality - the concept of the project was born from
the fact that Dubai started from pearl business, then grew and developed due to
finding oil and has reached her complete peak in our days.
Deriving
from the above mentioned circumstances we have pictured that the waves of the
ocean have taken out the element of the historical consequence – the pearl that
became the beginning of the development of the city. It as if has been sprang
out of the water in its shell in the result of irregular motion of the waves
and hang in the air becoming one of the most important elements of the symbol.
In our project the three imaginary waves as if hug and represent the pearl. All
this have very dynamic character that is followed with a more stoical 170
meters high tower that symbolizes the steady growth and development of Dubai
city that rushes upwards day after day striving to reach its peak.
Thus
in our project we tried to give the picture of the development of Dubai city
and her dual nature from her initial stage till our days.
Since
the area intended for the structure is found in Za’abel park being one of the
marvelous parks of Dubai and deriving from the requirements of the competition
the structure has to involve the therein the green areas and doesn’t have to
disturb the environment by at the same time complementing it and must give new
breath to the park and we have elevated the structure from the surface of the
ground and have placed on four main curved feet each of which respectively
consists of two feet that with spatial trusses are joint to each other by
providing a free motion in the downer section of the construction the linkage
of the city and the construction. In different levels of the construction we
have also anticipated different fragments of the park with winter and summer
closed and open gardens thus both the construction and the park will be closely
linked with one another.
The
construction mainly consists of two main sections – a dynamic section and a
static one.
The
main part of the dynamic section comprises the podium that presents itself an
oval volume that reminds of the pearl having immerged from the water and
consists of a three storied children’s library with all of its the serving
elements – the café, the winter garden, and the assembly halls.
The
main section of the library - consisting of the reading hall, the cards’ part,
the auxiliary rooms, the utilities - is found on the mark 17.00 and the
depositary of the books and the halls of the special courses are found on the
mark 12.50. The library section is directly connected with the winter garden
with escalators and everything is designed in a way so that the linkage between
the readers and the nature is fully provided and to provide the complete
relaxation a café has also been anticipated.
The
assembly halls are found in the next 26.00 mark, 3 in number and after
transformation they change into a single general hall. The two escalators
taking from the stage of the park that present themselves the main entrance
joints of the podium enable the visitors to go up to the 17.00 library and
21.00 entrance marks wherefrom they will be able to access all the other
stories with the help of some other escalators, staircases and lifts.
The
cafés and the winter and open air gardens being found on the marks 89.00,
102.50, 116.00, 129.50 in the midst of the imaginary waves, that enable us to
use elements of planting green stuff on the upper levels of the structure.
The
next section of the construction having 33 floors is too much like elements of
adamant that go upwards joining each other by obtaining a joint vertical
dimension. This section has very firm and reliable constructive system that
consists of above mentioned interlinked metallic adamant shaped cells in which
the equilateral quadrangular and octagonal platforms follow one another. The
linkage between those floors is provided with the help of vertical
communications – i.e. two lifts and a staircase. In the top section we offer to
anticipate a hall of weddings that will symbolize the future development. This
section is completely glazed and resembles an adamant (diamond).
The
two dimensions are interconnected with the open air and closed platforms that
give constructive firmness to the construction.
We
have placed the underground parking ground for 30 automobiles in the adjacent
part of the street to exclude the entry of the cars into the park territory. It
is linked with the main entrance square of the structure with the help of the
pavilion where the exit is anticipated to be.
We
recon that we have been able to meet all the requirements of the competition
and to obtain some type of a structure that could well be considered a symbol
of Dubai city and to engage the place of her contemporary structures.
