The L-shaped farmhouse at the South-West corner of the plot is an effort to demonstrate the kind of house that is ideal for the hot and humid climate of Surat.
The simple geometry of the house consists of 2 blocks made out of unplastered pointed clay bricks in combination with MS fabricated inclined stanchions and a puff-sandwiched bare galvalium roof. The first block is the public block accommodating the living area, the dining and the kitchen; whereas the second block is the private block housing two bedrooms with their individual dressing space as well as bathrooms.
The two longer sides of each block are dual skinned walls, the outer one being the louvered one where as the inner one being the sliding aluminum doors. The louvers ensure lots of breeze to pass through each space, thereby getting rid of the discomforts of the indoor spaces in the humid climate conditions like this. Both these blocks open out into a large courtyard which is a formal lawn used for parties and gatherings, in fact the entire house can be converted into an ‘Otta’ by opening the louvered doors on both longer side of the blocks. The L-Shaped house’s orientation and casting of its shadow helps to use courtyard during afternoon hours too which is practically impossible for hot and humid climate because of the direct sun.
The master planning accommodates the supportive activities for farm house like spill-over courtyard, Party lawn, Barbeque Den, Bamboo hut, dense plantation, Lotus pond, Volley ball court, Jogging track, etc.
