After freelancing for 4 years in the city of Calicut in Kerala, the architect cum artist Jineesh K Jois set out to name his own brainchild with his friend, Ar. Anusree. TADA! is an expression of surprise. He enjoyed the suspense of creating and revealing work to perfection. A creative who prefers to keep to himself and communicate through the language of art. TADA is an extension to his personality that grows equally in the direction of art and architecture. The design process of the studio, starting from scratch is a reverberation of this sound of exclamation.
“Our art should inspire us, and we should see it all the time to create more and better”, says he. As an artist, it was important to exhibit art in the studio. Walls were hence an indispensable element that had to be used in an area of just 690 sq. ft. By and large, walls are meant to divide. For a young architectural practice, however, the need for division is inexistent. To reinterpret walls so as to act as exhibit spaces yet be open in character, half walls were devised that open beneath eye level. The workstation is conceived not just as an architecture studio but also as a space for different design streams to coexist in a dynamic environment that can be formal for meetings as well as informal for design inspiration & discussions. Apart from architecture, Tada Design Collective specialises as a holistic design consultant to brands, catering design solutions starting from branding to interior design. In Tada, the medium of art, graphics and spatial design are perceived coherently, underlining the comma beyond the realm of architecture. The entire space portrays a white canvas where primary colours form meaningful graphics that are derived from the logo. The vibrant colours are inspired from the idea of a surprise and excitement that the name Tada gives off. By visualising the space as frames, the colours to void ratio have been balanced in each, maintaining the simplicity that they vouch for.
The spatial configuration which should have been negligible in a small space effectively binds together the tangents of multiple disciplines to one unified space. A series of experiences are created by the walls. While an angular wall gives a prelude, the exhibit pavilion takes the user through a gallery of art and then to that of a collaborative workspace. The custom-made furniture & carpet flooring allows for serious work and also a power nap afterwards which in the opinion of these young designers, is very productive. “A creative must not work in a rigid atmosphere”, they say. The lighting is designed such that the art is articulated well, and the fenestrated edge of the office lets in enough daylight. The attention to detail is an attribute that the studio carries forward in its design language. The Tada Design Collective’s studio is an awe-striking space in a mediocre 3 storey building in the heart of the city, just like the name suggests. One cannot imagine there abides a conducive creative environment in a regular urban context.
