A 1500sqft plot, tucked in one of the densest neighborhood of the city with absolutely minimal breathing space to the buildings posed us a challenge in terms of light and ventilation.
Synthesis as the name says, appears as though the walls on the exterior are floating away from the structure. The structure differs from the regular notion of a house as a single structure and is broken into many pieces. These broken fragments were introduced to infuse light and air into the building through various sizes of openings.
The house is characterised by narrow slit openings forming the skylights and windows to the bedrooms .The skylights with pergolas helps in filtering the direct light and helps in creating an interesting play of shadows. Although the bedrooms are set at the rear part of the plot, there is absolutely no dearth of light and air due to the slit openings.
The interiors are characterised by elegant and accentuated furniture and wood paneling. The living room forming the core of the house activities is flanked by a double height roof with skylights and a balcony throwing plenty of air and light. The transition of the interiors from living room to other parts of the house is subtle yet bold.
The facade is layered with wooden screen which acts as a security, privacy to the balcony and also adds to the aesthetics of the building.
The retroactive design approach has today helped in creating interesting spaces with out compromising on any basic amenities a house needs.
