The Synergy Hair salon is a conglomeration of mirror, glass, stainless steel and aluminum, which a®e layered and repeated to provide an illusion of endless surfaces within the generous volumes of the existing structure. Internally, the existing structure has been stripped bare to support the new form. There are two levels, and each ceiling void is 5 metres from floor to finished level. Jacobsen's insertions serve to reinforce the strong volumes and scale inherent within this original structure.Within the overall space there are more than 12 metres of blue resin glass in vertical length, which enhance the notions of transparency and reflection. There is an emphasis on verticality, with the mirrors at each workstation being 4 metres high. A new steel skeleton has been inserted into the old building, supporting a central staircase. The new staircase is a central point of the internal works, acting as a core within. The new shell has been designed as a glass curtain wall, which fuses the blue glass into the structure. Two type of lighting have been installed: up-lighting designed by Porsche provides a non-directional source. This light is reflected onto the mirrored surfaces, and thus, all round the salon. In the evening, halogen down-lights are used for display and security. When regarding the exterior of the building as a whole, what is actually the fabric of the interior appears to be a reflection of the skyscrapers of the Sydney CBD, which close by. Only upon further inspection is the depth of the layering within the space revealed. Synergy Hair is a work of transparency. It is clear and simple.
