Located in a small housing neighborhood, this project aims to create sub-templates that mimic the rhythms and forms of the townhouses in the neighboring area.
The architectural idea in this project proposes buildings composed of simple superimposed volumes. Together these volumes free up outdoor spaces for terraces, loggias, winter gardens, and balconies for each of the apartments.
Through creating marked hollows at the changes in the levels, the shifts between the building volumes are clearly expressed. At the same time, the recesses of the terraces, these carved out spaces are given a distinct yellow color in the treatment and stamping of the concrete, to further highlight the patterns in the façade. This composition gives the image of an “open” building which plays with the surrounding landscape and the ambient air.
Like a “stack” of housing units starting from the 1st floor up, the project clearly highlights a distinct ground floor. This base consists of shops and common premises that are open and connected to the streetscape, providing maximum entertainment in the planned public spaces to come. The ground floor of the building welcomes the by passers in and takes advantage of the landscape spaces in the heart of the block.
From a landscape perspective, our goal was to design volumes that would frame the sky and the horizon. At the same time, these volumes establish dialogues and visual breakthroughs of the natural and vegetation elements, so that they seem to "penetrate" the concrete building.
The principle is to find, through the divisions and the rhythms of the façade, templates in relation to the residential fabric and the small volumes of the neighboring district. SYMBIOZE establishes a synergy between the different bodies that make it up, businesses, housing, shared spaces, and gardens, with and overall sense of harmony between the new and the old buildings and the natural and the built elements in the area.
