To create this new penthouse pied-a'-terre required a total retrofit and repurposing of an abandoned bulkhead structure at the roof of a 1920s Georgian style building on 95th St on the Upper West Side. The scope of work consisted of a gut-demolition and modernist-minimalist approach to reconstruct all interior components, including the installation of a gas fireplace and new HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems. The essential structural work included replacing a bearing wall with steel framing to re-support the roof while creating an oversize wall opening for a storm-proof sliding windowall, offering dramatic views of Central Park. Of critical importance to the project's success, we received approval from NYC Landmarks Preservation Commission and acquired a new Certificate of Occupancy.
