Concept
A SWIMMING CENTER IN THE CITY
LOCATION AND ARCHITECTURE
A decisive aim of the architecture and the location of the swimming center is a wish to stress the quality of the site and to make the building stand out as and indipendent unit of a limited size and of a light Construction.
The site is oblong and is divided into two main parts by which a partly furnshing of the site is obtained.
The two main parts contain swimming baths and restaurant. The secondary rooms of the Building are underground, parallel and on a level with the swimming baths.
Daylight for the secondary rooms comes from light- and quadrangles, and light for the club-rooms comes from a sunken back garden.
The back garden has entrance to the swimming baths and can be used as a sun - trap.
As all functions of the secondary rooms are under ground level the light Construction will only cover the swimming baths, and the reataurant can therefore be made comparetively narrow.
Entrance to the Building is from the Square. The main entrance is placed between the 2 elements from where you come into a roofed connecting zone - between the Square and the Building - which via steps and slopes lead to the restaurant and a lobby for the swimming functions.
Through this arrangement the restaurant will be an asset to the Square and the swimming baths, and also give a pleasant passage between the Square level and the swimming bath.
The restaurant is thought as a green room with limited selections ad selfservice. The restaurant totals are 160 persons.
The swimming bath are dimensioned for 300 bathers and a pool, which can be divided up by Means of carrage bridges.
The swimming pool can in this way be adapted to various activities, fulfilling international standards.
With its light, sculptural effect the Building will be a festive element in the look of the town and the suggested marble paved Square with play ground, benches and plants will frame a pleassent open Space for the inmates from the surrounding Buildings, and other people who frequent the area.
