Bill and Cassie Swanson came to me looking to downsize and become more energy efficient. The lot was fairly flat and had numerous great majestic oak trees.
The design concept was to focus the house around the main living area; great room, kitchen, dining, yet reduce the amount of wasted hallways, all in one-storey.
The rest of the house is composed of wings that link to the main living area. The great room has high ceilings and utilizes an operable thermal chimney over the dining table. The kitchen has a really great round butcher block cutting surface slightly raised from the island's eating area.
The Swanson Residence was chosen to be on the 2009 AIA Home Tour in October of 2009.
