This particular store was built in the DLF Mall of India. It is their 7th store in India.
Various crafts and craftsmen came together to make up this store and give it a rather hand-crafted appeal as opposed to the usual modern and clinical retail design. It also imparts a much more indigenous (Indian) feel to the store and stands as a nice contrast to the rest of the stores in the mall.
Utmost care was taken while conceptualising that the interior design should not overshadow the merchandise. Rather it should compliment and provide a subtle backdrop for the colours in the fabric to come out in contrast.
Display racks hang from the ceiling with rope and are so entwined in the planks that they stay in one place by friction. Antique lacquer polish on the shelves give them an aged feel.
The ceiling has been designed in polished pine wood and gives a feel of a country house........thereby accentuating the feel of a home-run company.
The bed display is raised in a block board structure and finished with dark polished Mango wood. It gives extra storage while also provides a live display to the bed where the latest furnishing story is displayed.
The grey natural sandstone (Monsoon Black) on the floor gives a very nice neutral backdrop to the store. Turquoise ceramic tiles offset the grey stone to what otherwise might also turn out to be a bland visual.
I think it's the indianess of the store that comes across beautifully in the store and makes up for one of my favourite projects.
