The project includes a three-story courthouse with surface parking on a (+/) 3.8 site located on the Sutter County Government Campus. The facility is 73,840 SF with 224 surface parking spaces for court staff and the public. The Courthouse became a new centerpiece of Yuba City’s growing civic center. The design is a deceptively simple, cross-shaped building plan that: 1) provides four assertive elevations in a neighborhood context that sprawls loosely in all directions; 2) creates four distinctive courtyards, a public space amenity currently missing in the existing civic center; 3) evokes the shape and civic presence of Yuba City’s 1890s courthouse, a nod to local civic history.
The project is a secure, full service Superior Courthouse that includes the following components:
• Court Administration
• Court Clerks – Appeals and Records / Criminal / Traffic / Juvenile / Accounts Receivable
• 7 Courtroom “suites”, Court Clerk’s Offices, Jury Assembly Room and a secure bus sally port and central Day Holding area for transported prisoners.
• Sutter Co. Sheriff’s Dept. space - Court Security / Adult prisoner transfer/Central Holding
• Sutter County Probation Department space - Juvenile in custody transfer and supervision
• Office for the District Attorney, Public Defender, Probation Department and Family Support spaces.
• Building support spaces
• Parking for staff and the public
