Brief
The owners, having lived in the house for 16 years, required modernising of the bathrooms and kitchen and a new living area with direct access to the rear garden.
They also required space for a substantial home office and a separate studio for their adolescent children.
Design Response/ Concept
To provide 2 pavilions centred around the existing swimming pool and gardens.
To design the studio so that it has autonomy whilst also being an integral part of the whole house and garden space.
Passive Solar Design Systems
Thermal mass and insulation, orientation of openings, cross ventilation, stack effect, cooling gardens, and shading devices.
Materials
FSC lightweight timber for walls and structure.
Recycled brick for internal modifications.
Recycled concrete for footings and pathways.
FSC timber framed glazed windows and doors.
