Residential building: 50 apartments ranging from 170
to 300 square metersSite ParticularitiesThe site nestles in the midst of the “Golden Triangle” of the Lebanese Capital Beirut, namely Sursock, Solidere and Abdel Wahab regions, on a street renown to house many mansions of old Beirut families, and in fact is a strong part of the City’s heritage.During the1970’s, the neighborhood had witnessed major urban planning changes, whereas many prestigious 70’s buildings with very large apartments were constructed, while few proprietors conserved their historic mansions by renovating them and in some cases adding on them. The region remained very prestigious and many buildings were single family residences to some traditional successful Beirut’s families.By the year 2000, the immediate surrounding had become a mixture of high end residential buildings, office buildings home to many local and international banks, as well as some old private residences and mansions. The main common particularity within this mixture was the traditional “Garden”, sign of the neighborhood, “The green neighborhood”, all nestling on a hill overlooking the City Center and the Mediterranean Sea.During the last decade, another real estate boom was witnessed, by the edification of many high rise residential buildings, adding to the urban tissue new constructions with new morphologies and scale.Concept InspirationThe concept main criteria was to privilege “The Garden”, both horizontally by keeping a large part of the plot planted with high trees strongly present in the neighborhood, and vertically by inserting large planted platforms at all the building’s levels, creating a green urban continuity within the plot’s surrounding. On the main street, the building will be a low rise one, respectfully integrated within the street alignment, with large balconies jumping towards the street, reminisce of the “Mediterranean Balcony”.From the back sides of the plot, an important setback was implemented before erecting the high rise building which is perfectly inscribed in the City’s skyline, again with large planted terraces and balconies. The idea behind the concept is to “Integrate” a living structure, creating a strong interface bond and a dialogue with its living surrounding, and of which the design is to be dictated by all the factors of interface stated. The building’s main body structure created will be a “Patch Work” of harmonious images, creating the intended dialogue with its surrounding, and producing interesting view angles which pleasantly anchors the building in its vicinity.
