Surry Hills Community Centre Blueprint Concepts completed the contract for Probuild Constructions at the Surry Hills Community Centre for the Sydney City Council. The signage components set a new standard for architectural, wayfinding and internal, illuminated signage and Blueprint were proud to be a part of a City of Sydney imitative the green building design which Lord Mayor Clover Moore said that the build sets a benchmark in green building design and will be a starting point for the development of a green rating system for public buildings. When the signage design first came across Blueprints team they were taken back by the unique and innovative nature of the project. The architects FJMT were adamant that the signage components were to replicate the artistic impressions they had provided which at first seemed farfetched. Blueprint however took to the challenge and through the process of quoting, shop drawings, numerous meetings and samples the project was delivered within the tight lead time of three weeks. The signage components included: Building Signage – 3D individual letters cut from solid corian, 100mm high, 30mm thick at top and angled down to approx 2mm. direct adhered to the building façade using silicon. Three Directory board/ way-finding panels, one for each level all consisted of a different substrate. Ground level -Manufactured from 12mm thick Corian to form modules With flat and angled panels, each panel has text engraved from the face at 5mm depth with no paint fill so you can see the raw material inside, backed onto an MDF panel with a split batten fixing for removal of modules if required. Level 1 - Fabricated from solid Rock Maple and stained to form modules With flat and angled panels, each panel has text engraved from the face at 5mm depth with no paint fill so you can see the raw material inside, backed onto an MDF panel with a split batten fixing for removal of modules if required. Level 2 - Fabricated from solid Rock Maple and 2pac paint finished to form modules With flat and angled panels, each panel has text engraved from the face at 5mm depth with no paint fill so you can see the raw material inside, backed onto an MDF panel with a split batten fixing for removal of modules if required. Statutory Signage – Stainless steel panel, engraved and black ink-filled for tactile and Braille component to comply with BCA code. Four custom built fabricated lightboxes suspended from the ceiling at street level and custom made stainless steel fin supports, with one lightboxes incorporating an LCD screen. The overall look of this project was imperative and Blueprint was able to maintain the quality to complete this innovative building.
