Set expansively above the picturesque North Downs in Surrey in the middle of the English countryside, this luscious roof garden is a year-round biodiverse sanctuary for both its owners & local wildlife. Priding an exuberance of biota-friendly plant species cultivated in 50 custom-made planters, there’s interest in every season.
The bespoke planters create a trio of key areas for displaying modern sculpture by the art collectors clients, placed symmetrically within trough enclosures as the key focal points. Our clients have relocated into a modern penthouse apartment from a large country house, where this roof garden is of vital importance for well-being, social life & collecting artworks.
The planters are made from high-grade aluminium and powder-coated in 2 complementary colours. The walls were painted in a warm Tuscan red colour which creates dainty shadows as the sun moves across the roof garden, projecting through branches.
There’s a multitude of culinary herbs scattered below the larger plants, with a profusion of ornamental grasses, while 11 tree species include Paperbark maple, Amelanchier, Azara, Cornus, Osmanthus, Cotoneaster, Euonymus, Witch hazel, Chilean myrtle, Persian ironwood & a Japanese snowbell. The trees were purchased in multi-stemmed forms to provide graceful outlines & wind resistance in the exposed location.
