The Surrey Residence is the 1st building in Surrey BC, the Lower Mainland and only one of a handful in Canada to achieve the word’s most stringent energy standard – The Passive House Standard – requiring little or no heating. This home was constructed using a revolutionary prefabricated wood panel system with environmentally friendly rockwool insulation making it the most airtight home in Surrey achieving 0.4 ACH. Additional green building features include rainwater harvesting for toilet flushing, Solar hot water, triple pane wood windows and a ultra efficient heat recovery ventilation system.
In additional to the progressive green design and construction, making this home unique is the families desired to have three generation live under one roof which reduces their ecological footprint as a family such as this would normally be living in separate houses. There are a lot tangible and maybe not so tangible benefits to this. Less car journeys for the grandparents and grandchildren to meet and play/babysit, social benefit of having family close by to provide care saving health care costs/demand- especially with the generation that are advancing in age, to name but a few.
