Superama, the upscale store of Wal-Mart Mexico is planning to open a new
location at Jardines de la Montaña, a neighborhood located in the skirts of the
Ajusco, an extinct volcano in the southwest end of Mexico City.
We were asked to redesign the exteriors and façade of the new
supermarket that works nowadays as a car dealership. The structure needed to be
preserved, but the client needed a new fresh and contemporary image for the
store.
Our solution consisted of a folding façade that develops around the
existing farely irregular volume that gives a sense of continuity and unity
with the use of a repeating pattern with the color hue of their brand image.
The whole façade rises on the corner of the store to reveal the entrance
in an intuitive and dramatic way. The walls of the store are substituted here
with glass to allow the clients to see the inside of the store from the street.
The lower part of this volume is painted in a bright blue.
