Francis Cauffman designed the main cord blood facility for the upstate New York region. The SUNY Upstate Cord Blood Bank sets a design precedent for the institution, integrating a contemporary addition to the hospital via a shared atrium and courtyard.
SUNY Upstate mandated that the facility meet LEED Silver requirements, at minimum. Francis Cauffman used high-tech materials, including a photovoltaic “honeycomb” glass wall, to introduce sustainability, while also creating an interesting design feature.
This facility is the 2nd FDA Approved Cord Blood facility in the United States. Francis Cauffman also completed the first for The New York Blood Center.
