Zhenjiang Suning Plaza is located at the core business district of Zhenjiang City at one of the city’s major interchanges between Jiefang Road and Zhongshan East Road. The city’s shopping district expands out from this junction. The position of the site is uniquely placed in a central position relative to a cluster of mountains. The towers themselves by nature of their stature create an implied dialogue with the surrounding topography.
There is a significant urban plaza diagonally opposite the project at the site’s major road intersection that the design responds to by creating the major public entry to the retail mall, opening up at the lower level to create a welcoming landscaped plaza.
The project is a high density complex with a total GFA of approximately 400,000 m² on a site of 33,600 m². This project consists of a commercial shopping centre, a five-star hotel operated by Hyatt, Grade A office space, serviced apartments and a large electrical goods flagship store. These functions are combined in a highly cohesive way to create unique spaces for public activity and enhance the existing CBD area. At a height of 338 metres and 225 metres, the buildings as a pair represent the peak of the city skyline and they have become the new icon of Zhenjiang.
