A sun-sail made of reinforced concrete, yet delicate and light
The landscape consisting of white marble terraces, on three different levels, also including a pool, was planned as an extension for an existing house. The different levels are connected by large steps layed out in a starlike manner. A covered lounge area with a 10m long outdoor bar made of white Corian, (Bar, Grill, LCD screen), acts as the center of the ensemble.
Although made of concrete, the roof seems to float as if weightless. The concrete roof is polygonal, folded several times and in different directions, resulting in many varying angles, the edges narrowing down to only 10cm in thickness. A total of 650 steel rods, in varying shapes, were layed as if for a giant puzzle. A single column – made of stainless steel and standing on a slant - seems to carry the weight of the roof entirely on it’s own. The roof’s smooth white finish underlines its sail-like character. At night, the terrace plateaus are set in a multitude of different colour ambiances using the LED light system.
