The Sulphur Springs residence was a project for a young family building their first home. The clients wanted a house that was contemporary while still fitting into the region in which they had been raised. The project's compact site is located in an area void of a rich residential context and as a result, the regional tobacco barn was referenced for inspiration. Affordability was also a key factor which can often be at odds with the construction of a minimal home. Therefore, the design utilizes simple concepts and detailing along with readily available construction materials to achieve this balance.
