The mission of the Seatuck Environmental Association is to promote the conservation of long island's wildlife and environment through education, research and advocacy. Located on approximately 80 acres along the estuaries of the great south bay, the house and grounds were originally
planned by Grosvenor Atterbury in 1916. Most famous for the development of Forest Hills Gardens in queens and his stature as a turn of the century architect , this example of Atterbury's work on private residences qualifies this project for historic status.
In addition to being a LEED project, the plan is to renovate the 13,000 square foot historic building to address contemporary issues of energy efficiency, sustainability and a healthy interior environment that will be beneficial to both public and private
occupants. The program includes renovation the interiors on the first and second floors to create spaces for both public and private use. The unique challenge of this project is to blend green building practices in with the strict practice of historic preservation.
