Suburban mixed-use development

Via Francesco Baracca, Forlì, Italy

2009
Elongated from the via Aemilia and a secondary parallel street this 60 m wide and 220 m long vacant area stretches in the suburban outskirts. Series of irregular sheds stand in disarray along both sides. The buildings are located in between two green buffer zones: a large park in front of the busy via Aemilia and a parking area shaded with trees on the other. An 80 m long public arcade with 13 m high slender pillars screening the front of a dominant building faces the continuous partie of four concatenated blocks serried with robust pilasters containing walkways, bike-paths and access-ways. Provided with a line of trees and two micro-squares at the two ends, it functions as a spine conveying urban vitality.
